Hot water installation is more than just hooking up pipes. In Queensland, the rules for fitting any make or model of hot water system are considerably tighter than in many other states. Every replacement must comply with the current Australian standards, which may differ from the rules in place when your old unit was installed. Beyond the cost of additional valves (usually not supplied with new units), North Lakes Hot Water must also lodge QBCC Form 4 and pay the associated council fee for every home where a hot water system is replaced.
Every hot water installation carried out by North Lakes Hot Water includes:
– Tempering valve
– Pressure reduction valve
– Cold water expansion valve
– NRI valve
– Discharge drains to an approved outlet
– Full insulation on hot water and drain pipes
– QBCC Form 4 fees submitted and paid
Gone are the days when a local plumber could casually swap a hot water unit on the way home. Nowadays, replacements must be performed by a licensed plumber who also holds an electrical licence to safely disconnect and reconnect power. If the system is being moved, an electrical isolator must be fitted adjacent to it, and since 2019 this isolator has also been mandatory for every heat pump hot water installation.
Sadly, some unlicensed operators still cut corners—bypassing compliance, skipping paperwork, and avoiding required fees. At North Lakes Hot Water, we complete every installation to the letter of the regulations, so you can be confident the work is safe, compliant and professionally done.
